A conversion time
The period of lent refers in particular to the forty years in the wilderness by the Hebrews from Egypt between God and His promised land entry; it also refers to the forty days spent by Jesus Christ in the wilderness: Matthew 4:1-11, between baptism and the beginning of his public life. The figure of forty symbolizes preparation time for new beginnings. The Hebrew's New Year starts after the celebration of Pessah that is generally on April. Easter is this Celebration for Christians, Pessah is the celebration of the wilderness by Hebrews from Egypt to the promised land.
Lent, conversion time, based on prayer, penance and sharing. Penance is not an end in itself, but the search for greater domestic availability. Sharing can take many forms, including the donation.
...'But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.'...Matthew 6:3-4...'But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you'...Matthew 6:6 This gospel encourages the faithful to pray and act, not so arrogant and ostentatious....
Lent to give thirst and hunger for YHVH and His word
Lent aims to give thirst and hunger for our Father and his word. It is not only a penitential gesture, but a solidarity with poor and an invitation to sharing and alms giving.
Lent is a personal gesture to approach God. You may not eat all day long or you eat only once a day. And you pray to your Father. When you finish your prayer, you have to learn by hearth some phrases in Bible. '...''It is written:'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"....Matthew 4:4. Then, when you do lent, then you pronounce these 'word that comes from the mouth of God'...
Abstinence from meat, other thing or another food or something you like to do is observed every week until the end of Easter. Pray Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
Lent for a Christian is the preparation of Easter. To celebrate Christian Pessah, you must be ready for that. Easter is the biggest celebration ever. Jesus Christ gives his life to die on the Cross and He resuscitates from the death. There are some movies which relate Christian Pessah: Jesus of Nazareth, Passion of Christ... If I said Christian Pessah I mean Easter because we must always remember that we talk about a religion Judaeo-christian. The base of Christianity is from the Judaism. And Jesus Christ lived with Hebrews when He was on the earth. When we look at the Bible, there is Old Testament which is the base of Judaism and the New Testament the guide for Christianity. So both we cannot separate. Both are unique. There is only a Bible. Please share this Good News to your friends. This help you to get an answer to a daily prayer every day.
